Anyone who has not been granted leave to remain in the UK, as a refugee or under any other immigration status, is at risk of being taken and held in an immigration detention centre. This can happen suddenly at any time, but there are certain times in the legal process when you are more at risk.
Being in this situation can be very stressful. Being detained can be very traumatic. But there are many things you can do to prepare in case this happens, to make it less likely to happen, to make it less traumatic if it does happen, and to get out and back home more quickly.
This workshop, based on the Right to Remain Toolkit, will help you to understand immigration detention, to prepare in case detention happens, to reduce the damage it causes, and will look at practical steps that you can take to help yourself or to help others.
The workshop is free and unticketed, and open to all. However, you can really help us out by registering in advance, so that we have a better idea of numbers. Please register online: http://detention.org.uk/preparing-in-case-of-detention-workshop-liverpool-24-jan-2018/

Asylum Matters – Healthcare Regulations Briefing 2017
This briefing document from Asylum Matters, outlines the changes due to come into force in November, to the way the NHS charges for its services.
What should be remembered is that everyone is entitled to care where it is ‘urgent and necessary’ such as A&E service, and in the event someone cannot pay, it can be pointed out that it will cost the trust more to try and recover costs from someone who has no income. However if you don’t understand the language or have no one to advocate for you, how will Asylum Seekers know to do this?
Hilary Hopkin, a volunteer teacher at ALM, talks about why she volunteers and different aspects of life at Asylum Link – watch the video.
A full programme for Refugee Week 2017 at Asylum Link and throughout the city.
