  HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT ALM

There are many ways in which you can support Asylum Link and its aims

Volunteering

There are over 40 volunteer working at the St Anne's Centre. Volunteers may be young or old; they may be established members of the UK community: or they may be asylum seekers or refugees.

Volunteers work in a variety of ways including: basic case work on a variety of social issues (but not immigration unless training undertaken); general office work; welcoming on the reception desk; answering the telephone; teaching English; making tea and coffee and looking after the kitchen; working in the clothes resource area; gardening; organising events; fund raising and a multitude of other jobs.

Look at our what-we-do page to see where you could fit in. Whatever you have to offer will be appreciated. Please contact the volunteer coordinator Maggi at ALM if you would like to volunteer

People are free to volunteer for as many of few hours as they can spare. All volunteers can claim expenses for travel to Asylum Link.

Donating

You can donate money or goods

Money and Fundraising

Asylum Link is not government funded and is supported by a variety of trust funds. It needs much more to continue functioning. Donations are welcome or for those who wish to be more intimately involved, membership of ALM is an option. Please contact the adminstrator at ALM if you would like to give a donation or download a donation form or membership form.

Fundraising
Please consider running a fundraising event at your school, church or other group. For more information please contact the Illa, the administrator at ALM

Donating Goods

ALM needs donations of food for destitute asylum seekers who receive no benefits at all and are not allowed to work. See foodstuffs needed

ALM needs toiletries for asylum seekers. See toiletries needed

ALM needs clothes for asylum seekers who often only have they clothes they are wearing when they arrive. In particular clothes for young men - jeans, shoes, warm jackets

ALM needs household equipment, especially for people who have gained permission to stay and work in the UK. These refugees no longer have support from the Home Office and need to set up house and find a job. See leaflet for details of furniture and household equipment

If you have anything to give that you think might be useful, please remember that Asylum Link has very little storage space so please check that we can store the items, especially if they are large, before you bring them. (phone: 0151 709 1713) Please also make sure that items are in good working order (e.g. microwaves, televisions, computers).
