A Christmas Meal at ALM

December 2009: Thanks to everyone who helped with the Christmas meal especially to those who cooked. Chickens were roasted were by our volunteers across Merseyside and brought to the centre, with stuffing from Ormskirk, bread sauce from West Kirby and fresh herbs from Childwall. An enormous vote of thanks goes to the Students from STAR and the Guild for helping wrap presents and serve the food and to Talib and Esther who entertained us towards the end of the day. Same again next week?

Christmas meal at ALM

AGM - Wednesday 11th February 2009 at 6pm at St Anne's. The guest speaker was Father Peter Morgan Parish Priest of St Anne’s and St Bernard’s. He spoke of the desperate situation of asylum seekers and he described taking Ed Vulliamy, an experienced war correspondent, into our kitchen at ALM. Ed said: “...as great a concentration of pain and suffering in this kitchen as anywhere else in the country.” It is hard to understand the reason why only one in every four asylum seekers have any hope of gaining refugee status. It is easier to understand why so many asylum seekers suffer from mental illness, live in fear of deportation and then disappear, hoping to blend into the population.
The evening included a review of the previous year. Read more in the Spring Newsletter

barndance BARN DANCE - on Saturday 31st January at St Anne's Parish Centre, Prescot Road, Ormskirk, L39 4TG. Dancing to a Live Band. Doors open at 7.30pm with dancing starting at 8pm. Bring your own drinks and nibbles. Tickets £3.50 (£2.50 for children) are available at the door or phone John Gresty (01695 723239) or Tony Edwards (01695 422412). All proceeds for Asylum Link.
From Tony Edwards: "....the age range was 8 months old to 85, the number was around 200, the band was a six piece group of exceptional ability, the enthusiasm of the dancers really encouraged the band, who gave it all. The band played for free, the raffle prizes were donated, and the takings totaled £700. It was hard to get people to leave at the end and many asked when was the next one!'
